3 way comparison of Korea's newest craze: honey bread

the basic concept: a loaf of typical korean white bread is toasted whole. it is then cut in two ways. either the inside white part is cut out of the crust or the entire loaf is cut in a tic-tac-toe form. see below. then a scoop of ice cream is placed on top and honey is drizzled on top.
this dessert can be found at any coffee shop and can range from ~$5-$13.

1. Honey Bread at Cafe Burr
Price: $7
Location: 압구정 Rodeo 거리 (Apgujeong Rodeo Street)
This honey bread is the the latest one I've tried. I ate it on Sunday after a great dinner at a Japanese restaurant. Maybe that's why this honey bread was lackluster. Not only was a certain part of the bread was burnt, other parts of the crust weren't crunchy. The inside of the toast wasn't soft, but it was rubbery instead. It tasted like the average loaf of bread you could get at any Korean bakery. Also, the ice cream wasn't anything special either. It was average ice cream with average chocolate syrup. I couldn't even taste the honey at all. Not to mention that the presentation was terrible considering it's Seoul and Apgujeong. The service was also terrible. It took about 20 min. to come out.

2. Honey Toast at Purely Decadent
Price: $8
Location: 양재역 (Yangjae Subway Station)

For a dollar more, you can get a much better tasting and better looking honey toast at Purely Decadent. There's nothing incredibly special about this honey toast, but it's quality. The toast was quite nicely toasted, and it went nicely with the ice cream. This ice cream is dairy free as well as organic. It tastes a little different than normal ice cream, but it's good. The honey syrup is also pretty good. The entire dessert is very sweet and rich, but if you're craving a sinful dessert, this is it. Also, it looks pretty.

3. Honey Toast at Cafe Te
Price: $13

The mother of all honey toasts. This toast is almost twice the price of the cheapest one, but it's absolutely worth it. First of all, the bread itself is amazing. This perfectly toasted loaf of bread is crunchy on the outside and wonderfully soft on the inside. When you break open into this loaf, the steam comes out and the smell is just heavenly. This place not only covers this loaf with honey, but also with cinnamon and toasted almonds. The vanilla ice cream is forgettable, but the combination of the cool ice cream, honey, almonds, and deliciously fresh, warm, light white bread. While the presentation isn't super fancy, it's simple and does exactly what it needs to do: puts the focus on the bread. Simply put, it's heaven on a plate.

the best/only way to truly enjoy korea--eating the food

Name: W Burger
Location: 강남역 (Gangnam Station)
Ordered: Cheeseburger (Me), Deluxe Burger (Q), fries, onion rings, 2 sodas
Price: $7~$10 per person
Type: casual

According to the place, it uses a special kind of meat called "Wakyu" beef. The cow is specially grown by eating the best crops. I don't know the details (a lot of it is explained on the restaurant walls in grammatically incorrect English), but it's quite delicious. The meat was juicy and had a great fresh taste to it. Also, there was this special sauce that seemed like mix of mayonnaise and chipotle sauce in the burger. The bun also had a great crunch on the outside and softness in the inside. Also, each burger is made-to-order, so they take a few minutes to make. This burger was a pleasant surprise after having a disappointing burger at a place called Freshness Burger (not worthy of even taking a picture). I thought that finding a decent burger in Seoul was not possible until W Burger. However, pass on the fries, onion rings, and other side orders. They only fill you up and prevent you from fully enjoying this burger.
