let's start a revolution

After the New York Times mentioned this place as one of the places to go to in 2011, I knew I had to try this place. While the NYT is not always the go-to source food places in Durham, or any where in fact, I had heard really good reviews about Revolution in downtown Durham. We only went there for late-night dessert and drinks, but I must say that this is one pretty restaurant. Revolution would not be out of place as a super overpriced midtown or downtown New York place. The food itself is interesting and delicious to say the least, but the portions and prices are less than ideal, especially in an area with lots of students. It's not completely out of range with appetizers in the mid-low teens and entrees in the upper twenties to lower thirties, but not something most college students can do frequently. The dessert I had was a chocolate cake with cayenne pepper for a little spice and chocolate butter on top. At first I thought the butter was ice cream, but after realizing it was at room temperature I discovered it was butter. The cayenne pepper really elevated the dish, giving it a little punch to each bite and cutting through the creaminess of the chocolate and butter. The lychee drink I had was too strong for my taste, but the lychee taste was good. Overall, it was a good experience, but I think to make a final judgment I really need to go there for a whole meal.
